A masterplan for a historic market town

An ambitious masterplan for a sensitive & historic site in the ancient town of Rye. Set within a challenging cultural context and a high BNG hurdle just as legislation was being introduced. It required close coordination with stakeholders, client and the broader team to realise a scheme that would marry the sites past context with it’s future ambitions.
The newly legislated Biodiversity Net Gain requirments gave us an opportunity to interweave a fuctional ecosystem alongside generous amenity - a bioswale along the west of the site along with extensive tree planting and nature-rich planted buffers.
Scope included Masterplan and GA, Landscape Character Assessment and
extensive coordination with heritage officers and ecologists.
Planning has since been approved.
