Garden City principles in practise

Ebenezer Howard’s radical vision for a garden city, was for the “the beauty and delight of the country to be secured in perfect combination” - for the myriad benefits of the natural world to be woven seamlessly into urban living, for the enrichment of all. Today, these aspirations are increasingly relevant.
The development of the Wheat Quarter Masterplan places environmental stewardship, social-wellbeing and economic resilience centre stage. We developed a holistic horticultural strategy, that considers the benefit gardens bring to both people and planet, is a key tool for realising these goals.
Across the site, we identified areas in which sound horticultural practice and ecology could enhace the scheme, leverging ecosystem services and creating a place that will feel alive with life, for now and the next generation.
